James “Jamie” Dayton

Senior Vice President, Survey Research

Jamie is a survey research expert with over 35 years of experience in strategy and implementation in the health, environment, and transportation industries.

Jamie is an expert in survey research with over 35 years of experience helping states, municipalities, academic institutions, and nonprofits strategize, design, execute, and analyze large-scale health, environment, and transportation surveys. He leads our Survey Research Science and Operations portfolio, including the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and our quality assurance program, the International Organization for Standardization.

Providing exceptional insights into the direction of statistical and survey functions, Jamie designs and executes single and multimode phone, mail, and electronic self- and interviewer-administered quantitative surveys. He has experience with probability and nonprobability web panels and established our robust data collection operations.

Working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Jamie led the incorporation of BRFSS cell phone data collection and also leads the effort to design, develop, test, and implement an enhanced multimode and adaptive data collection protocol. The CDC and BRFSS state adoption of these modern data collection practices resulted in increased participant response rates without an increase in data collection costs.

Jamie holds a master’s in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont.
